The Things Blood Remembers

A Haunting Novel of Family Secrets

Three knocks. A pause. Two more. Something on Wren Road wants to be let in.

When her mother dies, Hannah Ward goes back to the house on Wren Road to sort out the funeral, empty the cupboards and leave again before anything can happen. She has a plan. The house has other ideas.

Her mother’s roses are blooming in the January snow. The kitchen radio plays when it isn’t plugged in. And every night at seventeen minutes past eleven, someone knocks at the front door, in a rhythm Hannah’s body knows before she does.

A chilling, tender and darkly funny British ghost story about grief, family secrets and the things that refuse to stay forgotten. For readers who like their haunted houses with the kettle on.

The heart of the book

In loving memory of my mum

In loving memory of my mum, who we lost in 2020. There isn’t a day I don’t miss you. This book is my little tribute to you, and to all the silly sayings, laughter and memories that will stay with me forever.

I hope it brings back memories from your own mum too, and reminds you of all those special moments, the everyday chaos and the things only mums say!

Love always. – Emma

About Emma

I’m a UK author of novels, colouring books and journals.

My first ever book, Because I Said So!, is a little tribute to my mum, who we lost in 2020. It’s full of the things our 80s mums used to say, and I hope it brings back happy memories of your own.
